Considering the Possibilities: a Salon des Refuses?

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on December 20, 2013 by ptartistFebruary 14, 2014

I wonder how many artists in the local area who have submitted artwork rejected by the juror for Collective Visions Gallery’s 2014 annual show?  Since many works get rejected, and most artists submit several works, there must be a good many rejected artworks in the neighborhood.

Enough for a Salon des Refuses? Certainly! And if there are too many, we would give priority to works by artists with all entries refused 🙂

But how to reach the artists?  Advertise?

Where can we hold the show? Port Townsend or Bremerton? Hmmm, that is easy if I am to organize it: Port Townsend of course!

Let’s be thinking about this!

See these and more in this series on Facebook.

Our five minute warmup took all evening! Too much fun! And can you guess which of these are mine? There is work from three other artists in here.

Finally trimmed out:

CH Bones FinishedSixteen months after installing this board to cover unwanted glass in a RoseWind Common House door, I have finally added trim around the edgest to cover the framing points and give it a more finished look! My trimwork is very makeshift, but it does look much better than before.

Itchy for art? Scratch it!

3 Black Scratches

Scratching an Itch: 3 small works on Scratchboard

These are three very small pieces on lightweight scratch “board”. This is really just a stiff paper that has an easily removed matte black coating. It is very fun to work with, and creates a dramatic high contrast result.

Bones over bones

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on November 29, 2013 by ptartistApril 18, 2014

Overlaid Bones

This has multiple printing of a poly litho plate over those four linocuts I am currently obsessing with. Not sure if this will resolve into a finished work: I over inked the lino plates, and switched the position of the top two plates, so this may never satisfy!  TBD

I am still enjoying this piece, and have added more as shown below:  more color fill makes the overlaid bones into a more substantial “body”, and the red-green contrast wakes it up a bit. The second scan is duller than the reality, which has two shades of green.

And I am still working on this:
