Making more

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on May 1, 2016 by ptartistMay 1, 2016

Today’s work:  two more people from the first two molds, and more people (clay only today).

Making more (5&6) from 1&2 Two new (3&4) bIt was warm today, and my material was a bit thick & set fast. This resulted in a lot more air bubbles, but I think I have the seams and air holes pretty well fixed & the new people are curing nicely.

And two brand new clay people to be cloned…

First Replica

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on April 22, 2016 by ptartistApril 22, 2016

The first clay model has been replicated using Rapidset mortar, and I am quite pleased (that it was not a disaster 🙂 Now I have the second mold filled with the same material.  I will need to remake half the mother mold for the first figure, as I broke it while releasing my statuette:  it was much too thin & weak, also I should have divided the piece a bit differently.  I will wait until I release the second mold, then do repairs on both molds as required.

First concrete pour

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on April 21, 2016 by ptartistApril 22, 2016

This has been quite the process to undertake without guidance or even moral support! Just filling one of my two molds today, to see of the rapidset cement even seems viable still… I hope the arms filled in properly, and I fear I forgot to cut a crucial part of the mold! I will find out tomorrow.

Sketchbook Project 2016

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on April 15, 2016 by ptartistApril 15, 2016

My latest entry to The Sketchbook Project (& Brooklyn Art Library) went in the mail today.  I chose the theme “Distance & Time”, and my entry title is “Light in the Dark”. I had set this project aside with double width pages that required the original sketchbook be dismantled & rebound. So this had to be done rather at the last minute.  Looks OK, but … could be much more gorgeous with a bit more planning & work. Oh well… it is a sketchbook!!! (I always say that…)
