Is it all too small? too intimate?

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on October 20, 2012 by SOctober 21, 2012

So I wonder about my art work … always. Who does it reach? Anyone outside my tiny circle of artist friends? I don’t think so: how could it? Not many people even see it, after all.  And most of these (happy) few will not share my particular aesthetic.

And then how well do I manage to realize my aesthetic goals in my work? I am improving, but …?

I am quite my work is too small, too intimate, too :light” for the art world. I am not bold, adventuresome, or innovative in my work. I don’t take issues with other artists, or with art movements, or with art critics: that does not interest me.  So my work is doubly unlikely to get any attention.

But perhaps I will eventually gain enough skill and consistency of voice to produce a body of work that may find a place in a gallery or two, and I may even sell a a few pieces at a reasonable price. That would be satisfying, I think… TBD!

But for now, I will enjoy the process, and just having created pieces that continue to satisfy me even a year or more later. That is nice, it really is.

When is more too much?

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on September 14, 2012 by SSeptember 16, 2012

Held Rock almost finished?

Now the question is: when to stop?

Soon I think… but there may be some parts competing, not complimenting, so I keep fussing:  you can see a few adjustments (and another 2 inches of the full square) in the image below.

I have to scan this in 4 parts to get the whole thing, and still managed to cut off at least 1/2″. But did notice until I had done all the careful work assembling the parts. So that is just it for now…

Back from Dungeness Recreation Area

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on September 14, 2012 by SSeptember 14, 2012

Lovely to wake up near the bluff view of the water, hear loons and ravens, and many, many cedar waxwings, chickadees, nuthatches, and more.

Held Rock III, in progress

Lovely to spend an hour or two drawing a the picnic table.

Lovely to wander for hours with my binoculars in beautiful sunny fall weather and surroundings: woods, grassy meadow, mountains in the distance.

Even nice to hear & see the groups of hobyahs (oh, I mean lively loud children) out experiencing nature at the top of their lungs!

Pity that all that rambling has gone

P.T. Artist Sandra Stowell Posted on September 9, 2012 by SJune 16, 2013

Seems I lost all my year or so of blog posts! I was (apparently) hacked! Wow, I feel so important!

So this blog is all about my art as it happens, my progression as an artist, recording stages of my art work, with only occasional chatter. Enjoy!
